The San Miguel County Search and Rescue Team covers approximately 1200 square miles, ranging from high desert at an altitude of 5,000 ft to high alpine at altitudes in excess of 14,000 ft. SAR responds to many types of incidents, including lost hikers, technical rock rescues, helicopter extractions, swift water rescues, and avalanche rescues.
